Jackets & Blazers - Welligogs

Jackets & Blazers

Hi everyone, since my last blog and post on my trip to Ettington Park for my birthday I’ve had lots of questions on Instagram about my beautiful blazer worn / seen in most of my photos. With that in mind, I thought I’d write a blog on blazers and my new jacket since I’m such an avid wearer of them and am honestly in LOVE with my recent acquisition!

A little history

The blazer is a traditional jacket that was originally worn by men, however this versatile and smart garment has become increasingly more popular amongst women, both living in the countryside and city and can be found in most of our wardrobes (or for some previous school uniforms) all across the world.

Blazers or similar jackets have been worn throughout history but the first record of women wearing them and the term ‘blazer’ came into fruition at Cambridge’s Lady Margaret’s Boat Club in 1825 due to the bright red vibrancy and ‘blaze’ of the teams jacket and the name stuck!

So as you can see they are a relatively new style of clothing that has sort of just stayed with us, moulding itself into a timeless classic.

Nowadays, you can see blazers all over the world worn by people of all ages, however arguably they are still seen to be a garment worn by only the ‘middle’ and ‘upper class’ or by certain schools.

For me, I’ve worn blazers since probably 2007 (a young teen as my old school only introduced them a few years after I left) when I went to a jumble sale (like a thrift sale for my American friends) and came across a beautiful brand new grey Mulberry Blazer. I ended up buying this incredible find for £1 and wore it religiously for near on 10 years (and still own it) which moulded my love of blazer style jackets.

Since then my purchases have somewhat grown with my ability to spend slightly more on clothes if desired (although I still love a jumble sale now and again!) and I’ve slowly extended my blazer collection into something bigger brighter and as you can all see more beautiful.

My latest addition is on a slightly different cut to your traditional blazer with buttons going all the way to the neck. This jacket therefore is inspired by the blazer featuring the same cut elsewhere making it a unique choice and excellent statement piece created exclusively by the brand.

My latest addition

My latest jacket was kindly gifted to me by the incredible Welligogs, a distinctly British clothing and footwear brand owned by Kim and Ray.

The jacket that I’ve been wearing in all my photos is called the Knightsbridge Wine Jacket (£275 an absolute steal!) The jacket is made from a light wool blend and is finished off with two pockets featuring a pretty crown zip detail and beautiful trim in moleskin.

The thing I love most about this particular jacket is its versatility and ability to make an outfit. This jacket is a statement piece as I’ve previously mentioned (and thanks to its varied colour pallet) will see me through the years season after season being dressed up or down with scarves, jeans or dresses (see below for a relaxed approach featuring Chelsea boots and midnight green cotton fitted trousers).

Thank you for reading and I hope this has been a helpful blog, perhaps introducing you to a new brand and fashion. If you would like to follow my country living journey, please feel free to sign up to my blog and/or follow me on Instagram. X

Thank you so much to Lucy aka Her Country Living, who wrote this wonderful and informing blog.
